Reading & Recall: The Unconventional Interview

Maria was nervous. Her interview at TechNova was scheduled for 10:00 AM, but the train was delayed by 15 minutes. She finally arrived at 9:55 AM, out of breath. The receptionist, a kind older man named Arthur, handed her a visitor badge (number 42).

When she entered the interview room, the hiring manager, Sarah, wasn't looking at a resume. Instead, she was trying to fix a broken espresso machine. "Do you know anything about these?" Sarah asked, wiping her hands.

Maria, who had worked as a barista for three years to pay for college, smiled. Not only did she fix the machine, but she also made them both perfect lattes. They ended up discussing the marketing position over coffee. It was an unconventional interview, but she received a job offer the next morning.
