Before you compare and order integers, you need to compare whole numbers with < and >, and know that on a number line, numbers get bigger as you move right. Warm those up and ordering integers follows the same rule.
Answer these 3, then press Show my path. No grade โ this just points you to the right level.
1. Which symbol makes this true: 3 ___ 8?
2. On a number line, numbers get bigger as you move which way?
3. Which list is in order from least to greatest?
On a number line, the number farther to the right is always the greater number. The symbol < means "less than" and > means "greater than." The open side points to the bigger number.
Your quick check picks one for you, but you can switch any time:
Level 0 Compare two numbers at a time.
A. Which is greater: 4 or 9?
9 is farther right on the number line.
B. Which is smaller: 2 or 6?
2 is farther left, so it is smaller.
C. What is the smallest number: 5, 3, or 8?
3 is the farthest left of the three.
Level 1 Use < and > and put numbers in order.
A. Which symbol makes 6 ___ 2 true?
6 is greater than 2, so use >.
B. Order least to greatest: 7, 2, 5.
Smallest first: 2, then 5, then 7.
Level 2 Stretch your ordering.
A. Order greatest to least: 4, 9, 1.
Biggest first: 9, then 4, then 1.
B. Which number is greater, and by how many: 8 compared to 3? (answer the difference)
8 is greater. 8 โ 3 = 5.
1. Which symbol makes 3 ___ 7 true?
3 is less than 7, so use <.
2. Order least to greatest: 6, 1, 4.
Smallest first: 1, 4, 6.
