Unit 4 · Culminating Projects
Percents & Rates in the Real World
Two project versions that pull together everything from Unit 4 — unit rates, unit price comparisons, percent of a number, percent discounts, sales tax, and measurement unit conversions using rate reasoning. Pick one, or run them as differentiated options. Each is self-guided, interactive, and printable.

Two Ways to Show Mastery
🛍️ Pop-Up Shop Owner
Launch your own pop-up shop with real products: set prices with 10%, 20%, and 25% discount options, compare bundle deals by unit rate, and add sales tax. Then compare shops with a partner and test your price against real U.S. state sales-tax rates (Self → Peer → World).
Version B · Real-World Investigation🛒 Smart Shopper Showdown
Become the savviest shopper around: compare real packages by unit price to find the better buy, calculate percent savings on a sale, and add up a grocery bill with sales tax. Then compare buys with a partner and test your spending against real weekly grocery budgets (Self → Peer → World).

Pick Your Path
Same math, same rubric. Both versions practice the exact same skills and are graded the same way — choose the story that sounds more fun to you.
Take your time. Plan for two to three class periods. Your work saves automatically, so you can stop and come back.
Stuck on writing? Every response box has a “Need a starter?” helper, and the last step includes a Rate My Work check before you turn it in.
For the Teacher
How to Use These Projects
Standards: 6.AT.2 (unit rates), 6.AT.2 (unit price / better buy), 6.AT.4 (percent of a number, discounts, tax, fraction-decimal-percent conversions), 6.AT.3c (measurement unit conversion using rate reasoning — featured in Version A's Level 2 challenge).
Both versions are parallel. They assess the same rate and percent skills through different real-world contexts, so you can assign Version A and Version B to different students and grade on the same rubric (built into each project). Great for choice boards, make-up work, or A/B class sections.
Built in: a Self → Peer → World arc, Visual Math Notes vocabulary, a Formula Bank and Sentence Frames, an EN/ES toggle, Level 1 / Level 2 differentiation, live calculators with self-checks, peer-compare and world-data tools, save/resume and a report export (.txt), a sticky progress bar, hints, a written deliverable, a student checklist, a rubric, and a print button.
