Grade 6 Math · 3D Mission Game

Volume Quest: Rectangular Prisms

Win each round by identifying length, width, and height, writing V = l x w x h, substituting the labeled values, and answering in cubic units.

Start Mission Use 3D Prism

Teacher Notes

This version uses an actual CSS-3D rectangular prism in the exploration model so students can rotate the prism and view depth. Practice problems use clean, static 3D diagrams so the solving view stays readable and printable.

1. Learn the Big Idea

Volume measures the amount of space inside a 3D figure. A rectangular prism has three dimensions: length, width, and height.

Formula Anchor

How to Solve

  1. 1Identify the dimensions. Find length, width, and height.
  2. 2Write the formula. Use V = l × w × h.
  3. 3Multiply or divide. To find volume, multiply. To find a missing side, divide the volume by the product of the two known dimensions.
  4. 4Label the answer. Volume uses cubic units, such as cm³. A missing side uses regular units, such as cm.

Vocabulary Support

Word Student-Friendly Meaning Sentence Frame
volume The amount of space inside a 3D shape. The volume is ___ cubic units.
rectangular prism A box-shaped solid with rectangular faces. The prism has dimensions ___, ___, and ___.
unit cube A cube used to measure volume. There are ___ unit cubes in the prism.
missing side A length, width, or height that is not shown. I can divide the volume by ___ to find the missing side.

2. Interactive 3D Prism Builder

Drag the prism to rotate it. Change the dimensions and connect the 3D model to the formula.

Math connection: the front face shows length × height, the top face shows length × width, and the side face helps you see the width.

3. Quick Checks

4. Mission Rounds

Clear 30 rounds. Each round tells you exactly what to find: volume, a missing side, a unit cube count, or a real-world quantity. Use the model, write the formula, calculate, and check your units.
