Coming up with different, and sometimes unique, solutions to problems.

Example: Making the front wheel huge so one pedal push carries you farther.

rotation rotación

One full turn of a wheel, gear, or pedal all the way around.

Example: On the Penny Farthing, one pedal rotation makes one wheel rotation.

gear engranaje

A toothed wheel that passes motion to another toothed wheel through a chain.

Example: The pedal gear has 48 teeth; the smallest rear gear has 12.

ratio razón

A comparison of two quantities, like pedal rotations to wheel rotations.

Example: The Penny Farthing's pedal-to-wheel ratio is 1 to 1.

equivalent ratios razones equivalentes

Ratios that make the same comparison using different numbers.

Example: 1 rotation per 32 teeth is equivalent to 1.5 rotations per 48 teeth.
