Plotting in all four quadrants is just first-quadrant plotting plus knowing opposite directions: left/right for x, up/down for y. Warm up reading (x, y) and the idea of opposites, then negatives are easy.
Answer these 3, then press Show my path. No grade โ this just points you to the right level.
1. In the ordered pair (x, y), which comes first?
2. What is the opposite of moving up?
3. A point is 4 right and 3 up. What is its ordered pair?
Every point is an ordered pair (x, y). The x is across: right or left. The y is vertical: up or down. Left and right are opposites, and up and down are opposites โ that is the only new idea for all four quadrants.
Your quick check picks one for you, but you can switch any time:
Level 0 Match the move to the direction.
A. Which part of (x, y) tells you how far up or down?
x is across; y is up/down.
B. What is the opposite of right?
Left and right are opposites.
C. To plot (3, 2), how far do you move across (x)?
x is the first number: 3.
Level 1 Read ordered pairs.
A. A point is 5 right and 1 up. What is its ordered pair?
x first (5), then y (1).
B. What is the opposite of up?
Up and down are opposites.
Level 2 Stretch into opposite directions.
A. Point P is 4 right of 0. Its mirror is the same distance the opposite way. How far left is the mirror?
Same distance, opposite direction: 4 left.
B. To plot (6, 4), how far do you move up (y)?
y is the second number: 4.
1. A point is 2 right and 6 up. What is its ordered pair?
x first (2), then y (6).
2. What is the opposite of moving left?
Left and right are opposites.
